In just eight days, follow Sri Lanka’s classic route from an ancient rock fortress to misty tea country, a leopard-spotting safari and the colonial ramparts of Galle Fort. This is the itinerary most first-time visitors dream of — compact enough for a single trip, varied enough to feel like you’ve seen the whole island.
Climb the 5th-century Sigiriya Rock, ride the world-famous scenic train through Ella’s tea plantations, track wildlife on an afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park, and finish barefoot on the south coast — all with a private air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide throughout.
Meet your driver-guide at Colombo International Airport and transfer to Negombo (20 min). Check in and unwind by the beach after your flight.
Drive north to the Cultural Triangle (3h30), stopping at the UNESCO-listed Dambulla Golden Cave Temple, home to over 150 Buddha images, en route to Sigiriya.
Climb the spectacular 5th-century Sigiriya Rock Fortress (around 1,200 steps) at a cool morning hour. Continue to Kandy via a spice garden in Matale, then visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and an evening Kandyan dance performance.
Visit a working tea factory near Nuwara Eliya before boarding Sri Lanka's famous scenic train through rolling tea plantations to Ella.
Morning free to explore Ella — the Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak are both an easy walk. Drive to Yala (3h) in the afternoon ahead of your safari.
Early-morning jeep safari in Yala National Park in search of leopards, elephants and sloth bears, then drive to Galle (3h) and explore the 17th-century Galle Fort as the sun sets over the ramparts.
A final, unhurried day on the south coast — swim, relax on the sand, or add an optional whale-watching trip from nearby Mirissa (seasonal, Nov–Apr).
Transfer to Colombo International Airport (2h) for your homeward flight.
